Credits and word lists

These are the word lists and licenses behind WordGrid and DoodleDash. The dictionaries stay on the server. They are not downloaded with the page.

WordGrid

English Easy is the common-word band of SCOWL 2020.12.07 (sizes 50 and below), which includes 12dicts. SCOWL is copyright 2000–2018 Kevin Atkinson. The lists may be used and sold if that copyright notice and the permission notice stay with the files. 12dicts is in the public domain (Alan Beale). English Normal is ENABLE, public domain (M. Cooper and Alan Beale), plus every Easy word. English Hard adds the larger SCOWL band, size 80 and below. Easy has 63,128 words, Normal 169,918, and Hard 247,637.

Swedish words come from the Hunspell dictionary sv_SE by Göran Andersson (2003–2019), licensed under the GNU LGPL-3.0. The server expands affixes into a flat list and does not invent compounds, so a made-up compound is rejected. Easy keeps inflections of shorter everyday base words (209,665). Normal adds kept words up to 10 letters (321,874). Hard keeps words up to 15 letters (670,055). The Kelly frequency list was not used.

The English bag is the usual 100-tile set. The Swedish bag follows the Swedish Scrabble Federation distribution: Å, Ä, and Ö are included, and there are no Q or W tiles. A blank can still stand for any letter in the Swedish alphabet, including Q and W.

Nest Dash pawns

The Nest Dash pawns are drawn in the game: a rounded body, a big head with eyes, and a base ring in the player color.

Neon Town town kit

The night-town buildings, roads, lamps, trees, and blocky characters are Kenney assets: City Kit (Commercial), City Kit (Roads), Nature Kit, and Blocky Characters. They are CC0 1.0. The license texts sit next to the model files.

DoodleDash

Each language has 597 drawable prompts (273 easy, 220 medium, 104 hard). English prompts include category names from the Quick, Draw! dataset by Google Creative Lab, used under CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). Abstract prompts were dropped, and some prompts were written for this game. The Swedish list is original wording written for CastPlayTV. It is not a translation of the Quick, Draw! dataset and is not covered by that license.

The full license texts are stored next to the server word files.
