Why I built it
Game night kept stalling on the small things: a missing box, a console that wanted an update, an app a guest did not want to install. I wanted the television we already had to be the table, and the phones already in the room to be the controllers. You open a browser, make a room, and people scan a code.
What is on the site
The games are the ones I wanted at that table. Chess and Go for two people. Freehold when the group wants a long property game. DoodleDash, Cast Dash, and Nest Dash when the room is louder. WordGrid when it should be quiet again. Two kart races, and QuickCraft when nobody needs a winner. Each game page describes the rules as the code actually plays them.
How a night starts
Open the site on the TV, or on a laptop plugged into the TV if the built-in browser is slow. Choose Main screen, pick a game, and leave the QR code up. Everyone else joins from a phone. For some games, a person who is somewhere else can put the board and the controls on one device and use the same room code.
Who it is for
Friends and family, first. If you can open a browser and the guests have phones, you can host. That is how I use it. I hope it is useful in other living rooms too.
Free, and the ads
The games are free to play. No account is required to start a room. I may show ads on some pages so the site can stay up. The Privacy Policy and the Terms describe how that works.
