Set up Main screen on Android TV / Google TV
- Install or open a browser Many Google TV devices include Chrome. Open it and go to castplaytv.com. Choose Main screen.
- Create your room Pick a game and create a room so the QR code is visible on the TV.
- Join on phones Guests scan or enter the code. Keep phones on the same Wi‑Fi for lowest friction in the same room.

Streaming sticks have limited CPU and RAM. Party games with simple boards usually feel better than stacking every animated effect at once. If a 3D title stutters, switch to WordGrid or DoodleDash for that crowd.
Use a powered HDMI connection and avoid daisy-chaining through flaky switches. Overheating sticks throttle — give the Chromecast airflow.
Voice remotes are fine for launching Chrome, but room creation is faster if one person drives setup from a phone while the stick displays an already-created Main screen session when your flow allows — or simply type carefully once and bookmark the site.
Casting a phone tab vs hosting on the stick
You can cast a Chrome tab from a phone or laptop to the TV. That works in a pinch, but hosting Main screen directly on the Android TV browser often keeps the QR readable and the board focused without mirroring UI chrome from another device.
If casting, pin the tab and disable screen lock on the source device so the Main screen does not disappear mid-turn.

Network checklist for sticks
Prefer 5 GHz Wi‑Fi for the stick when the router is nearby. Move the stick off congested mesh nodes if WebSockets drop. Wired Ethernet adapters for Chromecast / Google TV devices are worth it for weekly game nights.
Guest Wi‑Fi that isolates clients will break phone join even when the TV can load the homepage. Put everyone on the main LAN.
- Stick and phones on the same SSID
- Router not in “AP isolation” / guest mode for the party VLAN
- Browser kept in foreground on the TV
- Fallback plan: laptop HDMI if the stick struggles
